Established in the year 2003, UPES is a UGC recognized institute set up by the State Legislature of Uttarakhand. UPES has established itself as a forward-thinking university that offers industry-focused professional graduate and postgraduate courses, some of which are tailored to elevate subjects like - engineering and its specializations, cloud computing,  public administration, fine arts, big data analytics etc.

UPES is the First Indian Institution to offer 79 programs across different core sectors and also the first to be recognized by NASA ever since it has launched a Nano Satellite (UPESEAT) for its efforts in System Engineering.
