Pondicherry University is ranked 8th by NIRF among the Central Universities and stands very high in many other areas. The university owns the prestigious World Class Central Library and makes it available for the students.

The University entered in the field of Distance Education in the academic year 1995–96. Being in the 25th Year, DDE is proud to launch its own Placement Cell and Alumni Association to mark the glorifying Silver Jubilee Year. Around 2.50 Lakh Students enrol in their distance courses. The programs are accredited by UGC-DEB and AICTE.

The university also aims to assist disabled students, defence background students, widows and transgenders.
